NSPCC - FULL STOP Campaign

You might not want to talk to anyone about your worries because you are embarrassed, you might think people won’t take you seriously or understand you, or that they might tell someone else when you don’t want them to. You might think adults have let you down, so find it hard to trust them. It can be very difficult to talk about your feelings and what’s happening in your life, but some problems won't go away if you try to sort them out yourself or ignore them.

Opportunity Youth

Opportunity Youth is a multi-disciplinary team delivering a health, social and personal development and community relations programme to young people throughout Belfast. The primary and most formal method for delivering the programme is through groupwork. In addition, we offer a counselling and information service on a referral or opportunistic basis, we organise residential courses, field trips and activities. An expansion of these services is planned for the future. Opportunity Youth works within eleven different community workshop organisations, and between them we access at least 300 young people every week. These young people are generally from the lower socio-economic groups and have varied abilities from the very limited to the exceptionally talented. The majority are already habitual risk-takers in the areas of sexual activity, drug and substance abuse, petty crime, joy-riding and gambling. As identified by the needs assessment exercise, many of them have a heightened sense of apathy and a lack of self-esteen and self-confidence - and many of them come from a culture of unemployment.

Safer-Community.net

Crime is a major social issue. It scars the lives of victims, damages communities and lowers everyone’s quality of life. Crime also hits our pockets: policing, courts and prisons alone cost taxpayers £10.5 billion a year. The good news is that, up and down the country, voluntary and community groups are tackling crime and its causes in a variety of ways, such as running projects, giving advice or sharing information. Their work may focus on making crimes harder to commit, supporting children and young people at risk of offending, or helping communities to protect themselves from crime. Those currently involved in making their communities safer include tenants, residents and community associations; groups working with families, young people, the elderly; and, groups concerned with race issues, domestic violence, alcohol and drugs.

Refugee Council (UK)

In the years following World War II there were, worldwide, large numbers of refugees and displaced people. In 1951, a United Nations Convention relating to the Status of Refugees was held and certain international agreements were made governing the treatment of refugees. In the UK, two independent organisations were founded in 1951, namely the British Council for Aid to Refugees (BCAR) and the Standing Conference on Refugees (SCOR). In 1981 these two organisations merged to form the British Refugee Council. The Council adopted a mission statement, the aims of which remain largely unchanged to this day. The commitment was made to provide two main services.
