About Us > About Cavanaleck

Background
Cavanaleck Community Association, which is based within the Cavanaleck Housing Estate on the east end of Enniskillen, was reformed in June 2000 and was made up off 14 local estate residents. The group was reformed at this time following the serious concerns amongst the community within the estate at the increasingly evident severe and complex economic and social disadvantage and lack of opportunity and inclusion, which was and still continues to blight the estate. The estate is based some three miles from the Centre of Enniskillen town and is very much perceived by residents to be on the periphery.
The real physical isolation and subsequent sense of marginalisation has been further heightened by poor public transport provision and the complete lack of any social, recreational or community facilities within the estate or surrounding area of any kind. Further, action was spurned on by the increasingly poor and negative image that the estate has faced as a result of the massive increase in anti-social and crime related activity. Currently the committee is made up of 11 local people who live within Cavanaleck and who are representative of all walks of life within the estate.

Activities to date
• Established new community house on the Estate. Officially opened on the 25th of September 2001. House has been named the LEAF Centre. The community house name reflects the parks that make up the estate. Cavanaleck is made up of Sycamore Drive, Willowvale and Beech hill. LEAF is an appropriate name above and beyond reflecting the names of the component parts of our estate. When we think of leaf we think of growth and blossoming.
